PROJECT2
EXPERIENCE & ENVIROMENT
TIME CAPSULE
LEGACY MEDIA
In this project, I introduce a kind of legacy media--film by designing web pages, interactive books, bookmarks, etc. "Time Capsule" is an anonymous website, where you can upload your own developed film and write down your mood or memories at that time to make more people resonate, create a friendly environment, and relieve the pain and pressure of the moment.
*This project is an individual project
INSPIRATION&THEME
At the beginning of the project, I was attracted by this design inspiration. It is no longer limited to the form of traditional books, but adds a lot of fun. Inserting the inner pages of the book into envelopes or folders can be stored in many different booklets.
And the inner pages come in a variety of forms, some like postcards, and some like pure text cards. This output method can instantly capture the audience's attention.
In the early days, I always wanted to make a photo album on the theme of "memory", but many times I didn't finish the series. I saw Geloy's work and was able to create this photography by collecting everyone's memory fragments. And it can be well combined with old media.
While browsing the website, I found that this device can be combined with an old film camera. When the light is turned on, the film can be seen through to see the content of the picture. It is also a very novel design device, which cleverly combines the new and old media-film.
RESEARCH
The week the project started, we visited the exhibition “The Vinyl Factory” and were blown away by the installations. The Vinyl Factory is not limited to the music field, but also has many innovative activities in art and design. They operate galleries and exhibition spaces, displaying avant-garde and contemporary art, and providing audiences with a rich art experience. It connects the audience's vision and hearing, creating a wonderful experience.
IDEA GENERATION
LEGACY MEDIA-FILM
EXHIBITION
My initial idea is to have four outputs. The first is an interactive book, using different materials as the inner pages of the book, most of which are hand-painted materials. The second is web design. Through Geloy's experience, I thought that everyone can anonymously send "memories" pictures and other participants can write comments based on their own experiences. The third is a bookmark of a film template, where the developed film can be placed in the template and can be viewed at any time. The fourth is to let everyone write down their thoughts behind the bookmark during the open studio.
INFORMATION GENERATE
I first developed my own film, then told different people about my needs and asked them to send me the pictures to make samples.
#EXPERIMENT
BOOKMARK
When designing the bookmark, I planned to look for the original Kodak film model. This not only provides the audience with an experience of combining the old and the new, but also gives the whole work a strong retro atmosphere, bringing people a unique visual effect.
The original Kodak film model was chosen because it represents a classic era of photography, and many people have deep nostalgia for this texture and style. By incorporating it into a modern design, we hope to trigger the audience's memories of the good old days while reinterpreting this traditional medium in a new way.
During the design process, I carefully studied the appearance and characteristics of Kodak film, from the pattern design on the roll to the color tone, and the iconic Kodak logo. These elements are not only highly recognizable, but also help to evoke the emotion of the film camera era. Combined with these retro elements, I hope to inspire an emotional resonance of nostalgia and innovation in the hearts of the audience.

The final process was divided into three steps. I first used the prepared file to print the bookmarks and added the photos I collected. The second step was to paste the photos into the middle frame, and then put them together to make all the bookmarks. When printing again, I thought about whether to print it on both sides, but in the end I printed it on one side because I could write my mood or memorable points on the back.

INTERACTIVE BOOK
#INSPIRATION
Before the project started, I wanted to make a book that could cover different media: an interactive book, the purpose is to establish communication with the audience, which is itself a book made for different people, preserving them through photography and sealing them in memories. So I wanted to add some hand-painted elements, as in the pictures, and different materials of paper, with retro colors and rough textures, more like a style preserved long ago.
#SKETCH
Different inner page designs and sketches for each sample.
-tetenal matt
-etching film
-Transparent matte paper
EXPERIMENT
#PROCESS
When designing the inner pages, I first chose tetenal matt paper because it has a retro color and is not too thick. For these photos, they cannot leave too deep processing marks. After printing, we need to make two parts: handwriting and adding other papers (transparent matte paper and etching film). Etching film can see the words or colors on the bottom of the photo through the photo, while transparent matte paper can be written on it. It adds interest and also has a good preservation effect.
#OUTCOME
I put three different materials and the bookmarks in a file bag. It's like a package that seals all the memories.
INITIAL IDEA
I like this web design because he cut out the people in the photo and then put the content in. It is a very interesting and thoughtful design.
I referred to the placement of photos by this designer - and got inspiration for my design. I can place a lot of photos and have the text pop up when clicking on the photo.
Although this web design is probably simple in style, necessary navigation locations are also required.
#OUTCOME&TEST
OPEN STUDIO
Regarding all the output experiments, everyone also actively participated in the interactive installation and wrote their opinions on the back of the bookmarks, which could be taken down and pasted to leave anonymous messages.
REALISATION
FEEDBACK
After the project was over, I started collecting feedback from everyone:
I summarized the feedback I collected this time into two expressions, red and blue. Red represents positive feedback received, and blue represents areas that can be improved.
The main shortcomings are divided into two parts:
1. Interaction complexity:
Although interactivity is an advantage, some users pointed out that it is difficult to adapt to some complex interactive functions, especially for users who are not very tech-savvy, which may cause usage problems. Some buttons are not clearly indicated on the webpage, so people will be stuck when operating.
2. Depth of the subject
Some users hope to explore deeper details of the memory subject and suggest adding background information or related stories to enhance the richness and depth of the content. And when discussing new and old media, only old films exist for old media, and most of the others are new media. Considering that the preservation state of films is difficult, only a small amount of old media exists.
We received a lot of positive feedback during this design:
1. Web design protects user privacy:
Our web design performs well in protecting user privacy, allowing users to comment anonymously, and this mechanism has been highly recognized by users. Through the anonymous comment system, users do not need to worry about the security risks that may be caused by using the real-name system, and can share their ideas and experiences more freely.
2. The exhibition is highly interactive:
During the exhibition, Users believe that this design not only stimulates their curiosity, but also provides an opportunity for instant feedback. In addition, many people find this design practical. They can print photos and put them in photo frames to continue the experience of the exhibition in their own lives.
Success:
In this work, I think the success lies in being able to produce in different media. As mentioned in the previous unit, I hope to be out of my comfort zone, so I used several different forms of output in the output part of this EE project.
And when collecting user feedback, I achieved remarkable results. Many viewers participated and wrote down their own feedback. There were also different explorations in the depth of the theme. When exploring the theme, I chose an "empathy" way to think. The design effectively evokes the user's personal memories. Some comments are that through these creative designs, they can associate with their own experiences. This emotional trigger makes the design more memorable.
insufficient:
The shortcoming for me is that I don’t have the legacy media that can better play the role of this theme. Because at the beginning, I planned to make an installation to project the developed film. But it was not completed because of the special preservation of film. Many places cannot be preserved. And it will disappear after a period of time, so I plan to use paper media and electronic media to convey my ideas, and then web design. And on the packaging, there is no series of unified logos. Or the materials used are too many, and they may need to be unified.
FUTURE STUDIES
In the future, I plan to place more emphasis on the rigor of the subject and how to effectively match it with the selected medium. This combination is not only to ensure the consistency of the design work in concept and expression, but also to maximize the unique advantages of the medium in conveying the theme.
First, regarding the rigor of the subject, I will pay more attention to exploring the core and boundaries of the subject from the research and planning stage. Through extensive literature research and user surveys, I hope to have a clear positioning and deep insights in the selection of the subject to ensure that each design project can be carried out around a well-verified and guiding point of view.
Second, in the selection and application of media, I will strive to explore the characteristics of each medium and its advantages and disadvantages in expressing the theme. Different media - whether traditional print or modern digital platforms - have their own unique audio-visual presentation and interactive experience. I will try to closely combine the core concept of the subject with the characteristics of the medium to enhance the intuitive communication of information and the emotional experience of the audience.
LECTURE
#Pecha Kucha
In the previous lecture, I learned about the concept of pecha kucha. The design concept of PechaKucha is to be concise and clear, so that the speaker can focus on the core content. This method helps the audience to stay focused and highlight the key points of the speech. For our U6, we have sorted it out before, so that we can better grasp the key points and put the main highlights on each page.
However, the pecha kucha format cannot be used in the final exhibition, because the content of the work is not detailed enough. It can only sort out the core before typesetting and provide help during the speech, so that the audience can clearly see the key points. It can effectively enhance the efficiency and influence of information communication and show your unique design perspectives and abilities.

(Re)search (Re)cord (Re)port
At the beginning of the NEEC project, we conducted extensive research, including interviews and online research. The diverse research methods formed a solid foundation for our preliminary preparation, which provided us with a rich background that enabled us to identify many of the original deficiencies. Such in-depth research not only helped us understand the current situation and challenges of the project, but also laid the foundation for subsequent design decisions.
After the lecture, we further supplemented many research contents based on the existing materials.
This process gave us a more comprehensive understanding of the current situation and new possibilities. Through such systematic research, we were able to form a clearer perspective, enabling us to critically analyze and evaluate the topics covered in the course.
The research included everything from literature to our primary and secondary research. This multi-level research method helped us obtain information from different perspectives, which helped to integrate ideas and propose innovative design solutions. We used tools such as Miro, as well as handwritten sketches and mind maps to organize our ideas. This visual method enabled us to better see the connection and logic between various elements.
